Might take this piano over to Ideafest performances soon. Must return beforehand to ease this piano’s keys which I re-bushed earlier this year. My easing procedure uses my heat controller rheostat and soldering iron with graduated sized brass cauls properly toleranced to the width of either the front or balance guide key pins. A slight but positive knock is achieved, as the fibers of the wool cloth are packed and smoothed for ease of glissando. Previously the oval front key pins were rotated to take up this slack and the old extracted bushings had been so worn the keys would’ve been clacking on each other’s neighbors side to side, if pins were straight. Returning those guide pins to their original straight orientation means the internal articulating surfaces will have more efficient definition in linear motion up and down, or as the keys rock back and forth. Also, frictional values can be made more uniform across the keyboard.
