Philosophic reflections from the piano… and a work journal.

Tune of MHA 73037

This piano’s room needs a Govee 5057 hygrometer and temperature recorder, so that I can study the graphs of data. Unfortunately this year I had to be choosy and prioritize money on other stuff. It recurrently gets beyond 80-85 degrees in that practice module which bakes in the afternoon sun, then returns to nighttime temperatures, cyclically every day. The HVAC really doesn’t seem to do anything to keep it consistent. Still, it’s very important to have a piano in there because it’s basically our only practice room with a grand—other than the classrooms, because all the normal practice rooms are so small…. It’s my goal in the future to selectively curate a few practice rooms to offer baby grands, and there are some compatible rooms (and pianos) in existence with the door swinging correctly to accommodate it. Chiefly on my mind for this purpose are the narrowest grands ever designed, the “quarter grands” of Chickering, whose tone I personally love. Would someone out there in the world maybe please donate a few decent serviceable “quarter grands” to us?
